Report: 2nd Global and Local Infectious Diseases Research Seminar
The Research Center for GLOBAL and LOCAL Infectious Diseases held the 2nd GLOBAL and LOCAL Infectious Diseases Research Seminar on August 10, 2022. The second seminar, entitled ‘Lessons learned from epidemiology of infectious diseases in Sabah state, Malaysian Borneo’ was conducted with Professor Kamruddin Ahmed from Universiti Malaysia Sabah who is a visiting professor at the Research Center for GLOBAL and LOCAL Infectious Diseases.
The seminar was conducted online and attended by about 40 participants including those from overseas institutions. At the venue, Dean, Professor Akira NISHIZONO of the Research Center for GLOBAL and LOCAL Infectious Diseases and Associate Professor Hidekatsu IHA participated as facilitators. In this seminar, following an introduction of Universiti Sabah Malaysia, Professor Kamruddin Ahmed gave a lecture on Zika virus, monkey malaria, cholera, and HTLV-1 virus research, which he has been conducting in collaboration with the Center, while sharing his experience and results of his research activities. After the lecture, the seminar ended on a high note with participants asking in-depth questions about malaria and HTLV-1 virus, as well as about collaborations with other institutions.
